To refresh your memory

This is what the kitchen looked like before
The Grand canyon

This kitchen is older than me
The pantry

and NOW

concrete counter tops and cream cabinets -same cabinets - can you believe it?
glass tile backspash and microwave shelf

appliance shelf - margherita anyone?

The new pantry - now food is behind closed doors! - and see my spice drawer to the left?  No more digging through cabinets

We have fun in our kitchen so whimsy is important to me

For me - the caffeine addict
For Troy - the chocolate addict
Isn't he adorable!

Every girl needs a butler to bring her cake!

 And some designer touches

No more palm trees!!!
a few well placed accessories make it seem homey
And we didn't forget our four footed friends - $2.00 in ribbon and dog and cat treats have style too!

It is not totally done.  I have a shopping trip planned in May to the Williamsburg Pottery and Outlet to finish the accessorizing.  And we ae going to replace the stove next month.

Cooking in this new kitchen is a dream!

Going Big

I will be moving back in to the kithen this weekend!  The story is coming to an end.  I wish I could say I was sad but I REALLY want my kitchen back!

I have been shopping for accessories - both online and at the store.  I can't wait to place each carefully chosen item.  I think I found some great stuff that will bring the right amount of whimsy and function to uur new kitchen.

I usually make a cardinal mistake with accessories by going too small so I'm trying to GO BIG!

Final laps

We are in the final laps.  I can't believe what we have accomplished this week

Tile is all grouted.  Walls are all painted.

Friday we went to Home Depot and bought the sink, cabinet hardware, baseboard and base molding.  Saturday while I was at work, Troy prepped the floor and got a second coat on the cabinets.  When I got home, I painted the spice drawer.

Today we installed the floor.  I got to lay the first piece and the last piece.  We had a brand new floor by lunchtime!

Then it was on to plumbing.  Our old sink was warped and we decided to buy a new sink.  I HATE stainless steel sinks.  So we had to decide between acrylic, composite granite and cast iron.  Acrylic was the cheapest but it felt cheap.  Composite granite and cast iron were comperable in price and quality but in the end we went with cast iron.  And she is a beauty...

Weighs a ton. Putting it in was fun.  We had to trim the opening slightly which really made me nervous but as usual Troy came through!  And I only had to run to HD once to get some missing plumbing parts!

And now we have a garbage disposal.

And a built in dishwaher.....

So as I sit here, I am listening to the sweet sound of a running dishwasher.  It's music to my ears!!!!

PT - Paint and Tile

What a week and what a weekend.

We tried to get some little jobs done each night during the week. We hung the new light over the sink.

so much nicer than that florescnent bar and it adds more light.

All the cabinets - including my fridge cabinet have 2 coats of paint.  Now for the drawers and door fronts.  They all need a second coat.  The spice drawer is built but needs to be painted.

The biggest progress ws the tile backsplash - ta da

undercabinet lights too!!

and we uncovered the countertop!  Do you know how hard it is to see that huge expanse of countertop and not be allowed to use it!

We used some leftover tile from the bathroom project to tile the top of the cabinet next to the fridge cabinet.

We are sooooo close to being done.  I may have a new kitchen for my birthday!
